James Vargo was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1969. He graduated from Campbell Memorial High School and Youngstown State University.

James earned his law degree from the University of Akron School of Law in 1997, graduating magna cum laude and serving on the Editorial Board of The Akron Law Review.

While in law school, James served as a student intern for the Ohio Court of Appeals, Seventh Appellate District.  Upon graduation, James accepted a full-time position as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Gene Donofrio, and was employed in that capacity from November 1997 to October 1998.  While with the Court, James was exposed to a wide range of appellate issues, both civil and criminal, procedural and substantive.

In 1998, James accepted a position with Baker & Hostetler, LLP, in Columbus, Ohio.  While with Baker & Hostetler, LLP, James represented national and international insurance companies on coverage matters, defended product liability claims for heavy-duty equipment manufacturers, defended one of the “Big Three” auto makers against consumer and breach of warranty claims, and performed prosecutorial duties for a local municipality.

James joined Maguire & Schneider, LLP, in 2003, where he expanded his practice into a variety of areas.  James was involved in multi-district securities litigation and the defense of product liability claims for national food processors.  At the same time, James represented small and mid-size businesses in commercial disputes, and individuals in traffic-related offenses and criminal matters.

In 2006, James joined Clark, Perdue, Arnold & Scott, LPA, where he handled claims involving personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful death.  James also continued to expand his commercial practice, defending class actions and representing both plaintiffs and defendants in various business disputes.

James broadened his trial experience after joining James E. Arnold & Associates, LPA in 2008, where he was instrumental in securing a $4,750,000.00 verdict in a case involving a breach of a non-circumvent agreement, and where he successfully defended a million-dollar breach of fiduciary duty claim.

In 2010, James began a career as a sole practitioner.  In doing so, he sought to utilize the experience he had gained over the years to provide both individuals and businesses with quality legal representation at an affordable cost.

James has now teamed up with his long-time friend and colleague Jerry Kaltenbach, to bring you Kaltenbach Vargo, LLC, a firm founded on the principle of providing quality legal work in a more efficient manner.
